We pick the brains of models day in and day out. We’re constantly prying into their medicine cabinets and kitchen cupboards, trying to uncover their elusive model secrets. We hear a lot about eating clean and avoiding sugar, but rarely do we hear diet tips from a model who also happens to have her degree in nutritional science. That’s exactly why we went to Alicia Rountree. The Mauritian model is also a certified nutritionist and a restaurateur who’s sharing her secrets with us today.
Looking to reach your health and fitness goals? The foods that make it onto your grocery list can help you get there. But before you see which foods are my favorites to include in a healthy diet, here’s a quick note on the ones to keep to a minimum. Foods high in sodium or sugar are first on the list, as are processed items. Low-quality dairy products can also be high in fat and low in nutritional value, as is alcohol, which can also cause unpleasant side effects like bloating.
When you’re looking for healthy options, try to keep most of your meals filled with nutrient-dense ingredients that the body will take longer to digest. Fresh, colorful ingredients should make up the majority of your meals. If you want to boost your health by eating a few ingredients that also help the body burn fat, you’re in the right place. Read on for five of my favorite fat-burning foods for women.
1) Fermented Foods
Banish bloat with fermented foods like kimchi, tempeh, and miso. These foods contain probiotics that help the gut function at its best and keep your digestive system balanced. They can even aid in curbing sugar cravings.
2) Avocado
Aim for foods like avocado that contain healthy monounsaturated fats. They’ll not only keep you feeling full, but they’re also actual fat burners. A diet of healthy, monounsaturated fats works to reduce the overall amount of hormones that tend to store fat. Try adding half an avocado to a smoothie in the morning to start the day off right.
3) Broccoli
Broccoli is full of nutrients and natural fiber, which makes you feel satisfied longer while helping you maintain a healthy digestive tract. This is crucial for detoxifying the body. High in vitamin C, vitamin A, and potassium, broccoli is great for fighting inflammation inside the body. On top of that, the vegetable’s anti-inflammatory properties can help keep your complexion clear.
4) Citrus
The antioxidants found in citrus fruits help fight inflammation while potassium alleviates bloating. Start the day by adding some lemon to your water to balance pH levels in the body. Citrus fruits are also an easy way to fulfill your daily vitamin C requirement.
4) Apples
Apples help fortify your immune system, are high in a rich source of fiber called pectin, and take a long time to digest, which means you’ll feel satiated longer. Rich in potassium and vitamin A, apples are a great snack to reach for between meals.
